These conjunctions form a simple mnemonic that should help you recall them: FANBOYS

EXAMPLE: 

• I want a burger or pizza for lunch.
• Martha likes going to the beach and camping.
• I can drive you to the grocery store, but not to the mall.

KULLANIM BİÇİMLERİ:

1. Paralel cümleleri bağlamak için kullanılır.
2. FOR çünkü, zira anlamında kullanılır. Bağlaç olarak kullanıldığında muhakkak virgül konur.
   She didn’t go to school, for she was feeling sick.
   
3. AND cümleleri birbirine bağlamak için kullanılır. Birbirini takip eden, paralel eylemleri bağdaştırır.
   He went home to get his coat and came back for the meeting.
4. NOR ne de anlamında kullanılır. Cümlede verilen iki alternatifin de olmadığını belirtir.
   I never ask for extra allowance, nor I ever need it.
5. BUT fakat, ama anlamında kullanılır, zıtlık belirtilir. İlk cümleden sonra beklenmedik bir durum belirtir.
   They worked very hard, but they couldn’t pass the exam.
6. OR alternatif belirtmek için kullanılır.
7. YET yine de, fakat veya halbuki anlamlarında kullanılır.
   I have been living in this city for more than 10 years, yet I don’t like to live here.
8. SO bu yüzden” anlamında kullanılmaktadır. Sonuç belirtir.
   He was stuck in a dark, small room when he was little, so he’s afraid of the dark.

Once

Hem bağlaç hem zamir olarak kullanılabilir.

EXAMPLE:

• Tom once worked in this café, though he had to quit because of his school. (Zamir olarak kullanılmış.)
• Once you put the cake into the oven you should be very careful or you could burn it. (Bağlaç olarak kullanılmış.)

KULLANIM BİÇİMLERİ:

1. Sadece bir kere olmuş bir şeyi anlatırken kullanılabilir: bir kez, bir defa
2. Koşul belirten cümleler için kullanılabilir
   Once I start…
3. Düzene oturtulmuş bir şeyin bir kere olduğunu anlatmak için kullanılabilir.
   I visit them once a week
4. Bağlaç olarak kullanıldığında “-dığında/-diğinde” anlamı da verebilir.
   Once I came to the party, they were singing.
5. “as soon as” anlamında da kullanılabilir.
   Once you done with the school, you can start your career here.
6. Kalıplaşmış bir cümle olan “once upon a time” kalıbındaki gibi kullanılabilir
   There was a coffee shop once
7. Acil bir durumdan bahsederken “at once” şeklinde kullanılabilir
   Come here at once

Subordinating Conjunctions

after, although, as, as if, because, if, in order that, once, since, so that, than, though, unless, until, when, while, where

EXAMPLE:

• You can either take it or leave it.
• Not only am I done washing the dishes, but I’m also finished cleaning my room.
• Both my father and sister are doctors.

O = once, only if
N = now that
A = as, although, after
W = while, when, whereas, whenever, wherever, whether
H = how
I = if, in case, in order to, in the event that
T = though
E = even if, even though
B = because, before
U = unless, until
S = so, so that, since, supposing
